VeggieTales Comics

I received copies of VeggieTales Super Comics and an appreciation certificate from Family Christian for the purpose of writing this post. All opinions are my own.

I have ALWAYS loved VeggieTales.
When our daughter (who will be turning 19 in a couple of weeks) was little we bought all the VHS tapes.  As technology advanced we replaced those with DVDs and kept buying the new ones.  When she got older, we just shared the VeggieTales love with our nephews, nieces and friends.  So, last week when Family Christian was looking for bloggers to check out the new VeggieTales Super Comics, I knew it would be perfect because I had a friend coming to visit for a few days with her 9 and 7 year old children!  I mean kids love comic books, don’t they?
I kind of figured that the kids were going to rise earlier than we would in the mornings.  So before I went to bed the first night they were here, I set out Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the VeggieTales Super Comics on the coffee table in the living room.  This is what I woke up to!!

So much more fun than reading boring regular books, right?
The great thing about these VeggieTales Super Comics is that the kids were already familiar with the characters and they are suitable for both boys and girls.  They are in the higher ages of whom the comic books are geared toward and though they were easy for them to read they still found them fun!  The characters take on the look of the new VeggieTales in the House series that’s on Netflix, and that’s really visually appealing in the art panels.
Stories included in Volume 1 are Dave and the Giant Pickle, Lyle the Kindly Viking and an all new Larry Boy and the Prideosaurus.  Volume 2 has Josh and the Big Wall, The League of Incredible Vegetables, and Larry Boy and the Reckless Ruckus.  Our friends both really liked the Larry Boy and the Prideosaurus story!

Songs can’t be sung to you in comic books so there are no silly songs but no worries, there is still silliness amid the comic book pages as the kids get to experience “Knock Knock Jokes with Larry.”

Knock-Knock Jokes with Larry

You can pick up these great VeggieTales Super Comics at Family Christian for your kids to read during summer vacation, or to read together at bedtime as a family.  They are great to give as gifts too because they teach Biblical lessons in a fun way.   To help parents connect the lessons imparted in the stories and start discussions about how to make them relevant to real life, the inner back cover contains Bible verses and thoughtful questions for each of the three stories in the comic book.

  1. I was thinking about Jonah and the whale for a future story please. kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you!

  2. Rack, Shack, and Benny was my favorite Veggie Tales movie when I was younger. I’ll admit that I still enjoy watching these videos with my niece and nephew! And they’re always impressed that I know all the words to the songs!

  3. I think Noah’s ark is hard to go wrong with. But we also love anything with Larry!
