Talking about toilet bowl cleaners in your social circle generally isn’t done, which is why the internet and Google are great things! I mean where else are you going to find out what’s new, what works or the best place to buy the stuff you need to clean your toilets?
Have you ever tried an automatic toilet bowl cleaner? Every woman’s dream right? Well, Scrubbing Bubbles has an Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner and I got to try it out.
I’ve probably used every type of toilet bowl cleaner that you can find on the store shelves. From the natural to the overly caustic.
As of late Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush and Toilet Cleaning Gel are my items of choice, and they successfully get the job done. So reviewing the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner seemed like a natural step.
When taking the Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner out of the carton it looks a lot more complicated to assemble than it actually is. The instructions are clear and make it easy to put together.
They suggest for best results you start with a clean toilet and so I broke out my Fresh Brush and gave it a good scrubbing.
Assuming you have a standard toilet (which I’m sure is 99.9% of my readers!), attaching the Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner is again, fairly simple. I had it assembled and attached in about five minutes.
Quite simply the 360 degree sprayer and sensor (which would stop it from spraying if you happen to use the facilities when it’s due to go off) are attached to the toilet rim.
You can either attach the cleaning unit to the side of your toilet tank, or place it on the floor. I chose the floor option.
To prime the unit, close the toilet lid and press the grey unit button once (sprayer will activate) and then twice more. That’s it. Now it will automatically spray the entire toilet bowl with Scrubbing Bubble cleaner every eight hours for about 30 days. Oh and no worries if your family doesn’t put the lid down, once the unit is primed, it doesn’t matter whether the seat is up or down.
This new product is pretty cool. It does a decent job of keeping the nastiest of build up away, but you’ll probably still want to use a standard toilet bowl cleaner to deep clean it, when you change the refill (especially under the bowl rim).
For the $26 that the unit costs, plus the cost of refills (about $11 for two), I’m not completely sold on it. This leaves me to say, that if you are totally against cleaning toilets and absolutely hate doing that chore, you may find value in it. It doesn’t cost me $5.50 a month to clean the toilet using the products I use now.
If I continue to use the unit I received for review, it will stay in our master bathroom. It is definitely a product by its nature that will be asked about.
S.C. Johnson, I assume, designed it in the best possible way for the function of automatically cleaning toilets. Aesthetically though it’s not something you can hide. The cord and the way the sprayer/sensor sit under the toilet seat are very noticeable. Now obviously I don’t mind telling people about the new products I get to try, but “What’s that thing attached to your toilet?” makes for awkward dinner conversation. I can also see curious children wanting to ‘experiment’ with it.
The Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner will do the light cleaning for you, but I don’t see it as a replacement for total toilet cleaning. If I still have to wipe down the seat for germs and the tank for dust, it may take a bit longer, or be more of a frequent task, but I’ll probably stick to my Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush and Toilet Cleaning Gel for the toilet bowl, in my home.
