“Take a Sandwich Road Trip with Kraft Foods!”

In July, Kraft Foods will be launching an interactive microsite on www.Outstandwich.com that will act as a virtual trip around the country, as we search of the best regional sandwiches. Some of the sandwiches will be inspired by the Kraft Kitchen Experts, but others are coming straight from bloggers (and I’m sure you’ve seen some posts up for these already) and their readers (hoping I’ve got your attention now! )

I am the blogger they picked from South Dakota!  One of the things South Dakota is probably best known for (or maybe only known for!) is Mt. Rushmore, although I happen to live clear on the opposite side of the state

Mt. Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mt. Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota. Mt. Rushmore features 60-foot (18 m) sculptures of the heads of former United States presidents (in order from left to right) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Okay now the geography/history lesson is over.

But I thought I’d put together a Mt. Rushmore Sandwich for the South Dakota sandwich featuring foods associated with the presidents represented.

One of George Washington’s favorite foods was Hoecakes (Corn cakes).
Thomas Jefferson is supposedly one of the first people to have grown tomatoes in the United States.
Theodore Roosevelt enjoyed roast beef for Sunday dinner.
According to Abraham Lincoln’s bodyguard…”He was particularly fond of bacon.”

Mt. Rushmore Sandwich

Ingredients

Corn Bread
2 oz. of Deli Roast Beef
2 slices of fully cooked bacon
2 slices of tomato

Directions

You can use a corn bread muffin or biscuit – I baked a corn bread mix in a 9×13 pan and then cut out a section the size of a piece of sandwich bread.  I then sliced it in half to make two pieces.

Place the roast beef on the bottom.  Cut the two slices of bacon in half to make 4 pieces and place them on top of the roast beef.  Then the tomatoes, and top it with the other side of the corn bread.

Then enjoy this ‘presidential’ sandwich!

How about you?  Do you have a sandwich recipe that is reflective of your state?  Kraft wants to feature one of my readers on the Sandwich Road Trip as well.

This giveaway is being sponsored by Kraft.  I was compensated for this post, but any opinions stated are my own.

If you would like the chance to win a $100 American Express Gift Card and maybe have your recipe included in Krafts interactive map…. then share with me your favorite local recipe.

Make sure you leave the entire recipe so we can feature it if you win.  An easy way to do it on our Rafflecopter entries is to make sure you fill out the required information in the EXTRA INFORMATION field.  If that isn’t filled out, your entry will be void.

Let us know what state you’re from for a second entry!  Go a step further and take a picture of your home made sandwich and upload it somewhere so we can see it, and include it on our site if you win and have it linked up on the Kraft interactive map and you can get a third entry!
