A channel just for your kids is now available on Hulu Plus. While Hulu Plus already had kid-friendly content, within ‘Hulu Kids‘ the streaming videos are completely geared to children and it’s all available commercial-free.
With 43 shows right now, Hulu Kids spans the 2-10 year old age range. What you’ll find there is a selection of shows from providers like PBS and Nickelodeon, and you’ll be able to see what’s available by age appropriate guidelines as well.
You’ll find trusted shows that have been aired for years like Barney and Friends, Thomas & Friends and Arthur. Plus favorite new shows that the kids love including The Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and The Legend of Korra.
There’s a good mixture of educational with shows like Cyberchase (my daughter loved that show when she was in grade school), Word World, and Super Why!. And then there is the just plain silly featuring that goofy Spongebob Square Pants. Even my 16 year old was delighted with some of the programs that are offered.
We watched a variety of the programming, from Caillou to iCarly, with every show the audio was very good and the quality of the stream itself was comparable to watching it directly from a TV network.
Currently the Hulu Kids ‘hub’ is available on the Sony PS3 and to Hulu Plus subscribers logged in on the Hulu website. We found the content easy to navigate, and the streaming and sound was good. While we tested it, we used it both through the TV with the PS3 and on the computer through the Hulu website. I’m pretty sure kids as young as three that know how to use a mouse or a remote could even find the shows they want to watch themselves!
I’d like to see the capability to stream the Hulu Kids hub via their apps for iPad and Android in the future as well, it would be a great way to keep kids occupied on the go, not just in the house.
Hulu Kids is a good choice for parents who want educational, fun and commercial free entertainment for their children. It’s a good deal as a new addition to the Hulu Plus service which is $7.99 a month.
Tammy Litke received access to Hulu Plus services in order to write this review. All opinions are her own.
Now my son will never want to get off the computer!
