Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence is a devotional book with short readings and Bible verses, that encourage and support the Christian in their relationship with Christ.
What makes this devotional book unique is that Sarah Young has written it in the first person form. For me that struck a chord and made it a lot more personal. While perusing through the devotions I understand it is not actually Jesus speaking to me, rather they are Sarah’s words, but somehow realizing that this same text is just a bit more powerful and convicting if Jesus were to say it to me instead of someone else.
The book is portioned out in daily devotions from January 1st to December 31st. Since I was reviewing it, I read from all over the book and interestingly enough given the time of year it is right now, I particularly picked up on the theme of Thanksgiving in many of the devotions.
There are a number scripture references accompanying each day, and since this book is to be used alongside your Bible reading and not instead of your Bible reading, it’s a great jumpstart to diving deeper into the Word of God and ‘being still and knowing He is God.’ It will encourage you to listen to what He has to say to you through the Bible passages you study that day and further applying them to your life.
There are many different versions of the “Jesus Calling” devotionals including a Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids. And if you’re looking for some uplifting, encouraging or spiritually renewing Christmas gifts for those on your list this year, ALL of the Jesus Calling books are going to be 50% off at Family Christian starting on November 14th.
