The annual report ranked the nation’s most common relocation hotspots using data from one-way truck rentals. In the 15th edition of its “Top Moving Destination 2024 List,” Houston secured the No. 1 spot once again.
This is the fourth year in a row that Houston has topped the list. Several other Texas cities also appeared in the top 10, including San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin. Alongside the release of its rankings, a survey titled “Settling In: A Consumer Moving Trends Survey” identified the main factors influencing people’s decisions to relocate.
According to the survey, individuals cited improved career prospects, being closer to family, lower living costs, and the desire for more space as leading reasons for moving. Nearly two-thirds of respondents reported that relocating had a positive effect on their overall well-being. Experts note that as more people consider relocation, having access to professional movers can make the process smoother and reduce the stress often associated with moving.
The findings align with U.S. Census Bureau data showing that Harris County experienced the largest population growth in the country between 2022 and 2023. In 2025, it rose to become the third most populous county in the nation.
