OCTOBER 5, 2018 – I was provided with a copy of Hope Your Heart Needs through Revell Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group, for the purpose of this review. Affiliate links may be used in this post
It’s been a while since I’ve done a book review here on my blog and there’s a reason for that. 2018 just hasn’t left a lot of free time for me to read. When I have had some downtime to pick up a book, I’ll honestly tell you many of my selections have been fluff.
With routines booting up again in fall and a tough couple of months that included some unexpected losses and medical issues, I’ve challenged myself to take time to read books that will help me take next steps on my journey with Jesus. With limited time to do extra reading, Hope Your Heart Needs: 52 Encouraging Reminders of How God Cares for You by Holley Gerth, is a good fit for my schedule.
Admittedly for this review, I perused the entire book and quickly read it through so I could give you some thoughts on what I think of it. But I’m excited to take a chapter a week for the next year and really chew on the way Holley reminds us of the attributes of God that we can rest in, when we struggle with life’s situations.
The reality is life hits us hard some times. During those times we may feel down, alone, anxious, useless and a whole host of other things. In Hope Your Heart Needs, Holley reflects on, reminds and encourages us, showing us Scriptures of who God is. God is The Creator, Shepherd, Abba, Our Friend, Freedom, The Healer along with 46 other examples of God’s character, showing He is for us, He is with us and He loves us.
The chapters are short, a few pages each, but the content in them will encourage you for much longer than it takes you to read them. In turn they will help you encourage others and give you inspiration and strength to take your next steps on your walk with Jesus. I really like the 52 chapter format, as I plan to read one a week and really work on understanding each different attribute and use the week to reflect on that character trait of who God is, who I am in Christ in relation to it, and what I was created to do because of it.
Holley Gerth writes with grace and does not condemn the feelings we often have when we need encouragement. She gives us a peek into her own humanity and shares her experiences and struggles with the very same emotions we all deal with. I recommend Hope Your Heart Needs: 52 Encouraging Reminders of How God Cares for You for everyone because there is at least one chapter in this book that will speak to you right when you need it to. I also think it would be a great book to pick up an extra copy of and hold on to for a time… I’m fairly certain after you begin to read your copy, the Holy Spirit will prompt you to share the extra one with someone in your life who needs some encouraging reminders of God’s care for them as well.
This is the first book of Holley’s I’ve read but her style of writing and insight had me adding a few more of her titles to my TBR list 🙂 You can find Hope Your Heart Needs on Amazon as well as at other bookstores as well.
