A number of months ago I shared with you about the Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter. It was something I was really wanting to try out myself because we are currently trying to sell our home and I know that the less unwanted odors we have lingering around the better.
I have a super sensitive nose, if people really had super powers, mine would be ‘super sniffer’! I prefer the good odors (obviously!), but actually having a keen sense of smell has saved us on more than one occasion, from very burnt food to a potential dryer fire hazard.
In an effort to save money, we had purchased a bulk pack of furnace filters at our local home improvement store. We thought they worked well enough, we replaced them when needed, and they seemed ‘full’ of dust and grime when we changed them. And then one time we found a good deal on some Filtrete filters and decided to try those.
Wowzers! The difference in the air quality in our home was apparent quite quickly. I found I had to dust less and when filter changing time rolled around, we were shocked at what a truly “full” filter looked like. It was almost ‘furry’, if you know what I mean.
Truthfully I didn’t know what to expect when upgrading from the regular Filtrete to the Odor Reduction would be like, but so far I’ve been impressed. The odors in my kitchen especially seem to dissipate a lot faster than they used to. Our residence is on a second floor, and we have to go to our garage on the first floor to get rid of our garbage. There were days prior to using the Filtrete Odor Reduction filter where I’d have to remove the garbage after a day or so in our kitchen because it just turned my stomach every time I walked by that area. You know when you have wrapping with raw chicken juice or burnt popcorn bags in there? Blech.
Yet with the Filtrete Odor Reduction filter the smell doesn’t seem so bad, yes I can still smell it sometimes, but it isn’t nauseating like it used to be. The air flow seems to filter through in a short enough time period that the scent doesn’t permeate like it used to. Naturally we still empty our garbage prior to a home showing, but now I don’t have to worry about spraying air freshener everywhere as if I’m covering up a smell, because once the garbage is removed, the Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter does a great job neutralizing any lingering odors.
They definitely cost more than an off brand or store brand of furnace filter, but in this case I’d say you’re getting what you pay for. These are something that we will fork over the premium price tag for, as we feel they work in our home, and make it a much cleaner and hygienic environment to live and breathe in.
There is an offer right now on Filtrete’s webpage for a $6.00 Rebate if you purchase 2 Filtrete High Performance Filters with a Microparticle Performance Rating of 1500 or greater, which would include the Odor Reduction Filters. The Rebate is good until 12/31/2012.
I wrote this review on behalf of Filtrete and received an Odor Reduction Filter to try. All opinions are my own. Published by Tammy Litke. If you click on a link in this post, land on Amazon.com and buy something, chances are I’ve made some money, so thank you.
I don't really have a problem in this house, but I really did in the last house. My ex cooked fish and yucky stuff and this would have helped those odors go away much quicker!
My problem is dust not smells. Maybe a better filter would help.
