So to be totally up front with y’all, I did receive some cookie boxes from this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Season as a thank you from the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas for sharing this news. But the Girl Scouts organization is a program my daughter was involved with when she was younger and the cookies I received didn’t sway my opinion on the Girl Scouts, their mission, or their delicious cookies 😉 The information in this post was provided by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and to the best of my knowledge is correct as of the date of posting.
It’s January and that means it’s Girl Scout Cookie Season. Selling Girl Scout Cookies has helped millions of female entrepreneurs over the past 100 years spark their careers.
This is how my daughter sold Girl Scout Cookies back in the day…. (I’m sure she’ll love me for sharing this 😉 )
But the Girls Scouts of Northeast Texas are keeping up with the times and on January 12, Girl Scout cookie season begins with the launch of “Digital Cookie” – a program that allows Girl Scouts to build an online platform for their cookie business and allows consumers to place their orders with their favorite Girl Scout from a laptop, smart phone or tablet.
The launch of the Digital Cookie and its hands-on technology experience, rolling out in North Texas for the first time this year, is part of a national push to arm Girl Scouts with the business skills needed for 21st century work.
So, how does the Digital Cookie platform work?
It’s a lot like buying your cookies at a traditional cookie booth, but with an online twist!
1. In true Girl Scout style, the girls initiate the cookie sale, whether online, via email, or in person at the cookie booth with their Digital Cookie mobile app.
2. A Girl Scout you know may invite you to visit her personalized cookie website where you can place your order, pay using Visa Checkout or credit cards, have your order shipped or delivered by a Girl Scout,* or even donate cookies to charity. Some Girl Scouts may take in-person orders using a mobile app that also allows them to securely accept payments using credit cards.
3. Select your cookies, place your order, and complete your transaction. Boom, just like that, you’ve got delicious Girl Scout Cookies coming your way!
In Northeast Texas, the Girl Scout Cookie Program generates gross sales of over $13 million. And 100 percent of the net revenue raised stays in the Northeast Texas area. Councils use cookie earnings to power amazing experiences for girls through their programming, while girls and their troops decide how to invest in impactful community projects, personal enrichment opportunities and more (things like this dairy farm tour my daughter’s troop got to experience).
This season, troops nationwide are welcoming the return of the Girl Scout S’mores cookie (a crunchy graham sandwich cookie with a chocolate and marshmallow filling), the most popular flavor to launch in the 101 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies. These are AMAZING if I do say so myself!
You can help fuel leadership experiences for girls and help build the next generation of female entrepreneurs by purchasing Girl Scout S’mores as well as classic favorites like Thin Mints® (the all-time best-selling Girl Scout cookies) and Samoas®.
Though not the first area of the country to roll out the online ordering tool, North Texas is leading a national Girl Scouts movement to spark excitement about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning. A first-of-its-kind STEM Center of Excellence, on the site of the Girl Scouts’ Camp Whispering Cedars in Dallas, will open in May. It will be a laboratory for learning in a girls-only environment, offering guided lessons in everything from coding and chemistry to robotics and nature. ← This is something VERY close to my heart as my daughter (who was a Girl Scout!) will be graduating with an Arts & Technology degree, with a major in video game design, this spring from the University of Texas at Dallas. It is a field that females are highly underrepresented in, so this facility will be a great resource to the Girl Scouts in our Dallas-Ft. Worth community.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program in Northeast Texas runs January 12 through February 25, 2018.

What’s your favorite flavor of Girl Scout cookies?!
Oh how I remember those cookie selling days! No matter how you buy them, please do and support your local girl scouts.
Thanks for sharing this! Those S’mores Cookies look delicious. I did Boy Scouts when I was younger and we sold Popcorn.
