I’ve never been particularly fussy about the brand name of the jeans I wear, but I know which ones are quality and why other people seek them out when purchasing. The first brand for most that probably comes to mind when thinking of jeans is Levi’s. Traditionally you’d have to go to a department store to get them, but now they have a new line of jeans under their brand called “Denizen” exclusively available at Target stores.
New jeans are always a struggle when gauging fit, since the longer you wear them, the comfier they become. Through Team Mom I was able to choose a pair of Denizen Jeans to try out. I actually chose a pair for myself, although they come in sizes for the whole family, but because of my height (I’m only 4’9”), I typically buy my pants in the girls department, so I asked for a Girls Size 14.
Now perhaps I read the ‘style description’ wrong on the questionnaire the team members filled out to choose their jeans, but I chose a darker denim Boot Cut. I don’t recall it stating that it was a “Slim” jean, because when it comes to my thighs <—slim is not an accurate description and I know it. A ‘regular’ fit in a 14 girls fits me just fine, but the Slim Boot in the Denizen are definitely a slim cut. These jeans weren’t getting on me. Good thing I have a skinny teenager that is only a couple of inches taller then me right?
Still even for my skinny minnie daughter…these jeans were VERY tight in the thigh area. That’s not her style or comfort level. When we went to Target to look at other styles though we were disappointed to see only Slim Boot Cut, Skinny and Super Skinny. We did exchange ours for a size larger (Girls Regular 16) and they fit a little less snug. Perhaps I am alone in this opinion but since my daughter can usually where a size 12 in girls comfortably in other brands and styles, I’d say these fit on the small size.
As for price – if they are truly Levi’s quality (since we’ll try and exchange them, I didn’t take tags off, wash or wear them) – the price is definitely right. In line with a discount retail chain like Target – $17.99 for a pair of jeans with an elastic waist (regular price I might add), it certainly won’t break your back to school budget to be buying these for your kids.
