Cars 2, Pixar Animation Studios’ big summer blockbuster, is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray for home viewing.
All the world’s a racetrack as racing superstar Lightning McQueen zooms back into action, with his best friend Mater in tow, to take on the globe’s fastest and finest in this thrilling high-octane new installment of the “Cars” saga. Mater and McQueen will need their passports as they find themselves in a world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe.
We saw Cars 2 in the theater when it was released, but only in 2D. My family loved the original Cars movie and while this one is significantly different than the first, Disney did not disappoint with the story in Cars 2.
Cars 2 is a movie that my family could watch over and over again. Truth be told when we received the 3D copy in our home for review…we had another adult couple over to view it, and only us adults watched it! The storyline of Cars 2 is a little more action packed than the first one, as our friend stated while watching: ‘I didn’t know this was like an animated James Bond flick’. Which is where I personally think Cars 2 holds its own as a family movie; the beloved characters appeal to the kids, but the movie itself can not be just tolerated by adults, but actually enjoyed.
The characters both old and new come to life in the 3D version. The animation and sound quality on the disc are superb. Mater is definitely my favorite character of the pack and really he’s the star of the movie. Disney/Pixar made his ‘backwoods’ personality shine through in this movie and his antics have you laughing out loud.
The movie is fast-paced (well it is about a car race after all!), so kids aren’t likely to get bored. Pixar knows their business and does it well, and it is most apparent in the scenic scapes of the cities the races are held in. We found it even more beautiful in the 3D Blu-ray then when we saw it in theaters. Maybe because the screen isn’t quite as large or maybe it’s the intenseness of the Blu-ray but whatever it is was, I now want to go to the Italian coast because the movie made it look positively tourist worthy.
