I have not had much time for pleasure book reading in a while. Between resource books and the books Amber is reading for her high school courses, sitting down with a book just to enjoy a story and its characters was shelved for some time. When I was approached to do a review and giveaway of A Plain Scandal by Amanda Flower, I knew it would be a good way to get some down time in for me, and lighten up my reading load a bit too.

Books about the Amish community seem to hit a chord in the Christian Fiction crowd. I don’t quite know the reason why, but there are a lot of them out there. This one, blends the “English” with the “Amish” in a small Ohio town, and you almost get more than you bargain for, as two different tales and a budding romance develop within the story. A Plain Scandal is actually the second installment in Flower’s Appleseed Creek book series (the first one titled A Plain Death – which at the time I’m posting this is a mere $2.99 for the Kindle, a great way to try and see if you’d like the series). I didn’t read the first book, and found A Plain Scandal easy enough to follow, as Flower fills in the details that you need to know from the previous story.

A PLAIN SCANDAL follows computer specialist Chloe Humphrey into the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country where the quiet Appleseed Creek community is under attack. An unknown assailant is cutting off the long hair of Amish women and the beards of Amish men. Chloe is alarmed over the crimes against the Amish and worries how the events will impact her close friends. When she discovers an Amish man dead, Chloe decides to take matters into her own hands and find the culprit before someone else pays the ultimate price. As she seeks help from her friends who are more connected to the Amish way of life, together they attempt to restore Appleseed Creek to its natural peaceful state.

This book is an easy read, and I found it fun to read between the gap of modern and traditional. It is a Christian Fiction genre, but it isn’t preachy, Chloe’s kind of the Nancy Drew of Appleseed Creek, LOL.

Tammy Litke received an e-book sample of the book for review. All opinions are her own.

I have 2 copies of A Plain Scandal to giveaway.
