Disney has come out with a new production banner to produce media called Disneynature. On Earth Day April 22, 2009, they will release their first full length nature documentary called “Earth”. Alastair Fothergill (the British producer/director) who brought you the BBC series also shown on The Discovery Channel “Planet Earth” was involved in this project.
I’m not into documentaries usually. I find them quite boring actually. My Dad loves them, and I remember growing up, watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, and falling asleep on the couch.
When I saw the trailer for this movie however, it peaked my interest. Even on the small pixelated screen the images look stunning, and the story line (can you call it a story line in a documentary?) of following three animal families in their habitats across a year intrigues me.
I think perhaps the narration of Darth Vader, Mufasa, James Earl Jones will be soothing on the ears while watching this, which may help further push me to the side that a documentary can be entertainment.
I am, by my own admission, Disney biased, so watch the trailer and tell me if you think it would be worth seeing.
