Whether you’re as crafty as Martha Stewart or a novice user with a glue gun, Michaels has a way of bringing out the creativity in everyone! Yesterday evening I had the chance to see the newest Michaels DFW location, located at 1051 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake Park Village shopping center, Southlake, TX. If you’re in the area you have to get out and see the new store at the official grand opening on Sunday, February 8th. It has a brand new intuitive shopping experience, that you’re going to love.
The Grand opening celebrations begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a performance by the Carrol Dragon Cheer Squad at 9:45 a.m., followed by hourly prize giveaways and a DJ from 3-5p.m. Get there early – the first 100 in line receive mystery gift cards of $10-$100!
I’m not leaving out the rest of you though 🙂 The special blogger event that we were invited to (and received delightful crafting goodies and a shopping spree for attending, how cool is that?!), allowed us to craft a project from Michaels’ new exclusive line called Make Market™, that just launched in Michaels stores. If you’ve been to one recently, you may have already seen some of the great items available in it, for crafting and home décor.
What you’re going to find in the Make Market™ line is on-trend surfaces and textures. The latest in crafting, DIY and décor.
5 Reasons to Love the New Make Market™ Items at Michaels
1. Chalk
Chalkboard décor and crafts are ‘très chic,’ in case you haven’t noticed. I have done a few things myself here on the blog in the last number of months, like the Chalkboard Christmas Card Box and the Chalkboard Hydration Chart I put together.
Michaels wanted to show us how you can impress guests with the classic black surface and white chalk. They set up an Italian Soda Bar for us. Labels on mason jars, canvases and charger plates are just a few of the many things you can do, the chalk possibilities are endless with Make Market™.
2. Denim
Denim is a staple in your wardrobe and now it’s on trend for your home. For an of-the-moment take on denim, use it for décor or a DIY project.
At our blogger event I got the chance to make this very cool Denim Pocket Wall Organizer, using items from the Make Market™ line.
- glue gun and glue sticks
- Make Market™ Stretched Denim Canvas, 18″ X 24″
- Make Market™ Denim Ribbon, 1½” – Dark Blue
- Make Market™ Clothespins – Cork
- Make Market™ Denim Pocket Banner, 8 Pcs.
- Make Market™ Clothespins – Assorted Chalkboard
- Bistro Chalk Marker, Fine Point – White
Project Instructions
STEP 1
Lay pocket banner flat and cut three consecutive pockets. Leave 3″ of the attaching ribbon on each side of the three pocket banner.
NOTE: To leave the 3″ attaching ribbon, you will have to cut a parallel pocket from the attaching ribbon. Use remaining pockets for a future project.
STEP 2
Position pockets across the canvas, approximately 7″ from the bottom.
You can find the supplies needed on Michaels website to make it. I love that I was able to combine a number of the texture and mediums from the Make Market™ products to make this organizer, while the denim makes up the majority of it with the canvas, pockets and ribbon, I was able to incorporate the chalk and cork into the project as well.
3. Galvanized
Galvanized metal accents—a silvery bucket or bright marquee light—will provide the perfect pop of rustic or industrial style to any space.
Keeping craft supplies, story books or mittens in these bins with chalkboard sides provides eye-appealing storage. And with unique embellishments like metal ribbon your DIY home décor just got a bit more rustic or urban.
4. Cork
It’s not just for school bulletin boards! (Actually do they even have those in classrooms any more?!) The raw, unfinished texture of cork is in and so very versatile.
Some of the other bloggers made a project with cork charger plates!
I added cork embellished clothes pins to my organization board.
And see those cork puzzle pieces?
Michaels has some fun cork wall décor on their website that you can make using them.
5. Burlap
There is something about this rough, potato sack like fabric that is just so appealing for crafting and décor. Maybe it is its neutral color. Perhaps it is its simpleness. Whatever it is, it’s BIG when it comes to DIY and home goods, and Make Market™ has a bunch of products to help you do just that.
Ribbon, fabric, bags and boxes – there are numerous ways you can dress it up or leave it rustic. It’s all up to you.
The new Michaels in Southlake, TX location was set up in response to the feedback Michaels was hearing from their consumers. They wanted a store that was easier to navigate, better signage and items for projects in one location.
Michaels delivered and the store is definitely consumer friendly with great lighting, large helpful signs to direct you to the portion of the store you want to head in and more precise signage on the aisle heads.
In addition to that, when there are project ideas on end caps of aisles, crafters can find the necessary items right there, making it easier to get what they need to complete it.
It also has a state of the art custom framing center. Where you can bring what you want framed in, and with a camera and software you virtually visualize what it would look like with different mats and frames, and priced out with all the features so you know what you’re paying and why.
It truly is a great shopping experience.
So whether you get a chance to shop at the new Michaels in Southlake Park Village, or visit your local Michaels, either way check out the new Make Market™ items. If you pick some of the products up and craft with them or decorate your home, let us know, we’d love to see what you did!
