If your kids are anxiously awaiting the DVD release of the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie…did you know that it’s already available on Digital HD?!
We didn’t have a chance to see it in theaters this summer, but this past week Paramount gave us a code to download it from iTunes, and so I got my blanket and cozied up on the couch to watch it yesterday. I was kind of excited to see it because I always watched the ‘heroes in a half-shell’ in its original animated form when I would babysit my nephews in the early nineties.
Paramount did a pretty good job remaking this franchise to appeal to both the original TMNT fans as well as a new generation of kids.
Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.
I was expecting some bad humor, because well they’re teeangers and turtles and mutants…so it goes without saying that there was bound to be some eye rolling and groans, but there were times that I found myself smirking and maybe even let out a laugh or two.
There is plenty of action to keep the young boys enthralled, and Megan Fox is delightful as April O’Neil so the girls who may not have an interest in the ninja turtles may still be fixated to the screen as well. (But I have it on good authority that there are plenty of young girls who like the renaissance turtles as much as their brothers do.)
I actually had a lot of fun watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and think it would make a good family movie night rental or purchase if you have the digital means to stream it. The Digital HD copy also comes with extra bonus features that are interesting.
Is your family Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fans? Who is there favorite turtle? Have you seen the movie yet? Do you take advantage of early Digital releases rather than waiting for the DVD to be released?
