There’s no better time than now to visit the Sonoma Valley, for a long weekend or a week. If you’re planning a very special anniversary, this would be a great place to go, especially if you’re looking for a good bottle of wine to go along with a lovely dinner.
No matter how you get around, you’ll be enchanted by Sonoma Valley’s gorgeous landscapes, vineyards and dramatic vistas.
One of the best ways to see the valley is to rent a bike and take in the scenery. Take note that you can keep joints pain-free with a glass of wine! A Dutch study, by Diane van der Woude, M.D., showed that women who enjoy one serving of wine per day are 73 percent less likely to develop arthritic joints than those that abstain. So pedal past the vineyards beauty and then stop in for a glass so you can keep those leg joints limber! Make sure to pack a sun hat if you cycle in the valley to protect your head and face from the sun.
Obviously the culinary scene is hopping there too, and you’ll want to make sure you visit a Sonoma Winery that offers a bistro or restaurant.
You can sign up for a vineyard tour at a family winery, and you’ll not only take in the views, you’ll also learn how the grapes get from wine to glass. Visiting tasting rooms is a must to sample locally produced award winning wines. Be prepared to purchase some wine after you’ve tasted it, you can have shipped back home if you flew to the valley with carryon luggage only.
While visiting in person is the ultimate discovery if time or budget doesn’t allow for that, you can take a virtual tour of a vineyard too. The Benziger Family Winery would love for you to come and visit. You can even shop for their wines online when you’re finished your ‘tour’.
