Protecting Your Family From the Flu This Season

Today was a very busy day for my family.  My parents got up early and left to go home.  Then we went to buy a new couch and chair.  And then we headed over to the doctor to get our Flu Shots.

So it was very timely when I saw Twitter Moms asking their community to share with their readers that the best way to protect your family against the flu is by getting vaccinated.

Yeah, I like controversy.  I bottle fed, have no problems with HFCS, and we are very pro-vaccination in our home.

• The flu vaccine is updated each season to protect against the three flu viruses that research indicates will cause the most illness.

We cruise every year, and cruise ships are a breeding ground for flu viruses, which is why we’re proactive in getting the shot.  I also work in our church nursery each Sunday around the littlest of children, and don’t want them to get sick because I am.

Of course we also wash our hands frequently, use hand sanitizer when soap isn’t available and use antibacterial cleaning methods on door handles, telephones and toilets in our home too.

Amber “hates” getting the flu shot, she gets incredibly worked up about it.  She was in tears last night when I told her we were going to get them today.  She went in like a trooper though and came out unscathed!  But if you are like her or have children that are fearful of shots, the flu vaccine is also available in mist form. For more information on this, ask your doctor or visit www.cdc.gov/flu.

Protect your family from the flu this season, call your doctor, and get a flu shot, especially if you have children under 6 or have family members that you are caring for over 65.
