This northern girl is LOVING that the heat of summer is in full swing here in Texas. One of the things I’ve been loving about living here is the abundance of fresh produce available all year long and most of it is sold at reasonable prices.
We’ve been eating our fair share of fresh fruit around here. We love eating watermelon, peaches, pears, bananas, strawberries..well you get the idea. You know what I don’t love though? When that same fruit goes all mushy and starts to spoil because it’s sitting in its own juice in a plastic storage container. You know what I mean? Now that’s not tasty at all.
Good Cook has a new bowl out on the market that addresses just that problem. The Good Cook 3-Piece Pro Freshionals Cut Fruit Bowl is available only at Bed Bath and Beyond locations.
Make room in your fridge for it though, because this bowl is HUGE. The three part system includes the watermelon colored insert which acts like a colander and strains the juice of the fruit into the lower green bowl.
As you can see that has a very handy spout on it to pour the liquid out should you want to reserve it in a jar, bowl or cup for something else. The plastic lid loosely fits on top (it does not seal), which is great for outdoor parties to keep the bugs off the contents.
When I think about using a great big fruit bowl like this, my mind instantly goes to a Party Fruit Salad. One that’s perfect to bring to a potluck, to take along on a picnic or to bribe the kids with. Yes, that’s right, because it includes marshmallows. No kid can resist it 😉
The berries and marshmallows make it sweet, while the cherry pie filling gives it just a hint of tartness. It makes a tasty lower calorie dessert if you use a “Light” pie filling – and it’s a terrific alternative to ice cream on a hot summer day. It makes about 8 – 1 cup servings.
Party Fruit Salad Recipe
1 cup of fresh diced peaches, skin off
1 cup of fresh diced pears, skin off
3 mandarins/clementines, peeled and segmented (an 11 oz can of mandarins (drained) can be used in place if you cannot find them in season)
12 strawberries, hulled and quartered
2 bananas, sliced
1 20 oz. can of Light Cherry Pie Filling
2 cups of miniature marshmallows
In a large bowl combine all fruit together. Gently fold in pie filling and marshmallows. Chill. Enjoy!
How do you enjoy eating fruit salad?

Thanks for sharing this, my kids are going to love it!
Fruit salad is perfect for the summer. I've been eating a lot of it.
This looks really good. I love how that bowl makes it easy to separate the juice from the pieces of fruit.
Nice bowl! That looks like a really yummy fruit salad!
I like the idea of the bowl that's for sure! We can't get enough fruit this summer. It gets eaten before I even get my share. We've only had a few strawberries go bad due to them being left out on the counter covered with a towel. So disappointed. 🙁
I love fruit salads, especially with fruits that are in season! Yum!
I have never really been into fruit salad (my husband loves it, though), but this looks really delicious. 🙂
I am an absolute fruit addict and this recipe sounds amazing! I will definitely be pinning it to have on hand for our next gathering.
It is sooo hot here in NC that sometimes you just don't feel like cooking, much less eating. Something like this is just what I need, plus I am on a diet so double score!
