Not Your Mother’s – Hair Care Giveaway

var fbShare = {size: ‘small’,}

Okay I know it seems funny that for a Mother’s Day event, I’m sharing about a hair care product line that’s called “Not Your Mother’s“.  When we were gone for Easter, I was looking through old photos at my Mom’s place.  Oy!  I can remember my Mom, my aunts, my mom’s friends, all with those beehive hair dos.  I imagine that they must have had to use products that quite possibly had varnish in the ingredients to keep those dos upright and mess free!  Um yeah, I closed that photo album, with the great appreciation that in 2011 my hair doesn’t resemble my mother’s from 35 years ago!

I’ve been blessed with fast growing hair.  So I have had it styled so many different ways it’s hard to count.  Short, medium, long.  Straight and curly.  Highlighted and colored.  You name it I’ve done it.  I’ve always been of the mind that “it will grow back”.  And it always has.  But the older I’m getting (I’m knocking on 40…) the more I’m noticing that not just any old product will work to keep my hair styled, and it’s even more difficult when traveling.

We do quite a bit of traveling and I usually keep my hair shorter when I know we’ll be on the go.  But this past year, when I was ready to cut the locks off in anticipation of traveling, Hubby was getting nostalgic, and told me he’d like me to keep it longer for a while.  I am glad he tells me his preferences, but ugh, I’m not the biggest fan of trying to wash and style my hair in guest bathrooms, and the cruise ship closest (yeah, that’s about the size of the bathrooms on those vessels).

But I have to say I really enjoyed trying the Clean Freak: Refreshing Dry Shampoo from NYM Brand Products.  It’s a little perturbing to spray on some white powder on your hair, and ‘hope’ that it will clean it, without looking like you just turned 60.  And yet, clean your hair it does, like you just washed it.  It was a lifesaver for me Easter weekend, when too many people in one house, drained the hot water tank, and I got the short end of it (or rather the COLD end of it!).  So rather than washing my hair, I sprayed some Clean Freak on it, and voila, even my Hubby noticed that it was clean!  I do think I initially sprayed too much on, because I had to do quite a bit of combing to get it all out, but I wasn’t disappointed with the results.  This is fantastic for traveling.

One note – you will have to be careful how you pack it when traveling.  Somehow it emptied out in my bag during transport after my first use of it.  I don’t know if I didn’t put the lid back on tightly, if it sat in the trunk to long and got hot (although it was pretty cool where we were, the sun may have been shining on the trunk), but whatever the reason, the can leaked the contents out in my bag, and the dry shampoo became a sticky mess on one of my shirts.

Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream: This will make you feel like you’re on a tropical island.  The coconut extract in this product makes you think of Pina Coladas and Umbrellas.  All I know is that there is no better smelling way to tame that frizz that Spring brings to your hair.  This product is a great way to get that sleek, straight look, whether you’re blow drying or air drying that static attractor you call hair.  This is the lazy girl’s way to straighten, when you can’t be bothered to break out the flat iron (you know who you are snooze button hitters!).   Smooth Moves will give you a nice shine and make you smell like the tropics.

When I want a more sun-kissed look, like I just spent the day at the beach (which is a hard look to pull off in South Dakota…just sayin’), I’m going to want to spray on some Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray.  It also will make me feel for the other 51 weeks of the year, that I’m still on a cruise ship (albeit I have a MUCH bigger bathroom to style my hair in at home).  Beach Babe gives you that ‘just out of the ocean’ look to your hair.  Those soft curly tendrils that are a bit separate from each other.  I like to part my hair down the center, squirt some Beach Babe on, and then pull out my blow dryer and on a low heat setting just scrunch up the bottom of my hair a bit while I’m drying it.  What results is a carefree look that has a touch of ‘celebrity’ to it!  I ♥ the locking mechanism on the spray bottle too.  Just twist the ring around the collar to get it to lock or unlock!
