Chefs and novice cooks alike can impress friends and family with the very same dishes famous entertainers and dignitaries prepare and serve thanks to Legends in the Kitchen: Celebrity Recipes for a Cause, compiled by Mrs. Howard Keel & Linda F. Radke and published by Five Star Publications, Inc.
Dozens of celebrities have contributed their favorite recipes to this fabulous collector’s cookbook – all for a good cause, as a percentage of proceeds from the sale of Legends in the Kitchen benefits the nonprofit Motion Picture & Television Fund, which has served the entertainment industry with a vast array of health, retirement, social and charitable services since 1921.
I recognized names like Betty White, Beau Bridges, Dick Clark, Victoria Principal and Stefanie Powers instantly. I’ll admit to saying that many of the stars were from shows and movies before my time. The one thing that was impressed on upon though about all the recipes in the book….they are all pretty easy to make. That kind of surprised me, because I had this impression that a lot of the recipes would be “gourmet” in nature, but movie stars eat like you and me at home too!
My family is a little strange and absolutely love meatloaf. I usually stick to the same tried and true one, but I made this meatloaf from David Glen Eisley and Olivia Hussey (who was the famous actress that made Juliet come alive in the 1968 movie Romeo & Juliet) that I found in Legends in the Kitchen Recipe Book. It is actually the meatloaf that David’s mom Judie made for him.
My family devoured it, and what little was left from dinner, I can attest that it’s delicious cold too (wink). It has a light tangy taste and is very moist yet still gets that ‘crisp’ layer on top. This takes very little time to prepare, although you need to leave 90 minutes to bake it. This is definitely going into my dinner rotation.
Whose Easter basket is this good for?
The movie buff or any serious cookbook collector.
