Why the World is Going Crazy About Korean Cosmetics

As other parts of the world boast about their natural resources, South Korea is highly disadvantaged in this area. They do not have a lot of natural resources, oil, or many minerals to write home about. What they have in enormous amounts is face masks and BB creams.

As part of their exporting business, alongside cars and electronics, beauty products are amongst the biggest source of revenue for South Korea. Anytime you walk into a beauty product shop, you will most definitely find an assortment of Korean cosmetics on the shelves. The internet is also buzzing with all the benefits that you will get from using Korean cosmetics.

The biggest boost to this industry is from an entity you would not even think would give a hoot about the cosmetic business. Yap! The Korean government! To add to their revenue, Korea is always looking for products that they can export.

The beauty culture is changing; you might have had the notion that France is the mother of all beauty products- this is so far from the truth with all eyes now looking up to Korea. China is the biggest consumer of the Korean beauty products, followed by Hong Kong and America in that order.

If you think the craze about the Korean cosmetics is unrealistic, then believe the numbers. After all, numbers do not lie, right? There are over 2000 beauty brands, not worldwide, but in Korea only. You will find Korean beauty products in cosmetic shops and online cosmetic shops like Soko Glam Korean Cosmetics.

The history behind it all

The Korean woman is known to use between 10 and 18 products on their face in a single day. A Korean woman spends twice as much of her income on cosmetics than her American counterpart, while the Korean male spends more on skincare products than men in other countries. So you bet, this Asian country is ahead in terms of research and innovation when it comes to beauty products.

The natural aspect of the products

You might not find the words organic or natural on the beauty products, since they formulate them in their own special ways. Many products use the undiluted (zero water) form of ingredients maintaining a high proportion of the natural ingredients.

As in the Korean cuisine, their skincare products use fermentation. This process helps the ingredients to break down into small micro-particles, allowing the skin to absorb them easily, deeply and efficiently. This also is a way of eliminating artificial preservatives.

Most cosmetic companies believe and stick to sourcing for ingredients locally. As part of the ingredients used, you will find green tea, Lotus, soy bean, camellia, sea kelp and so many other natural resources, all sourced locally.

As the beauty product trends shift to Korea, more and more women are embracing products that are made out of natural ingredients that will be gentle on their skin, but at the same time will bring out results.

  1. Very interesting. I have not tried any Korean cosmetics, but I have tried some Japanese ones. Worth looking into!

  2. Great post! I didn’t know that they commonly put that much makeup on daily and that they were known for their creams! O definitely need to try some out!
