Headleveler™ sent me a travel pillow to try and share my thoughts on. All opinions are my own.
Every day I want to be asleep from the moment my head hits the pillow. The ability to sleep often eludes me when I’m traveling though. When I’m flying I usually book a window seat, put my head up against the wall and try and get some sleep. Unfortunately that rarely works. For the most part when I’m not in my own bed, I mostly just fall in and out of sleep. I have come to realize that it is because of the pillow (or lack thereof), but bringing my own pillow along every time I travel isn’t really practical.
What I never imagined was a travel pillow that would be as good as the pillow that I use every night, but that is exactly what the Ortho-Cerv™ Headleveler™ custom travel pillow is. That is because it was made for my body and sleep habits!
Headleveler makes a travel pillow for both men and women. Then you answer a few questions based on your height, weight and sleeping preferences. When you’re done you’ll get a pillow number.
I received the number “18” which is described as this:
For the perfect night’s sleep, based on your height, weight and sleeping preferences, we recommend this pillow thickness which is on the softer side. Very user-friendly and a great choice for more petite individuals who require a light neck support and those who like their pillows on the softer side. Also a great choice if you do not want a very thick pillow and are used to sleeping with softer-type pillows.
And that’s about right on target for me.
The nice thing about the Headleveler is if you got it wrong (because let’s face it, sometimes we ‘think’ we might be a side sleeper because that’s how we fall asleep yet somehow we wake up every morning on our back! So are we a side sleeper or a back sleeper?.. hmm… ), and as long as you try the pillow out BEFORE opening the pillow package you can return it. They don’t allow exchanges or returns if the package has been opened (understandably), but you should get a good feeling on whether the pillow is going to work for you by trying it with plastic on it (*tip put it in a pillow case with the plastic on and then try it out!). I feel they are worth the cost of the $88 they retail for, but that is a good amount of money to be out if you got your number wrong or the Headleveler is just not for you, so be sure to be sure!
What the Headleveler is all about, is allowing you to sleep naturally. It provides both neck and head support which allows for a sound and restful sleep. Both ends are fully filled to produce a flat service so that the head may be supported horizontally and straight while lying on one’s side. The pillow offers two cervical necks supports; a wide support for a longer neck and a one for a normal neck length. You use the one that fits your neck length best. The central recession is gently shaped to entirely support the back of the head.
After I made sure the 18 travel pillow was right for me, I took it out of the package. I noticed the construction on it first. The quality of the fabric and the construction of the custom travel pillow itself is excellent. It definitely is noticeably different from a pillow you would grab at an airport kiosk.
At 19″x14″, it is smaller than a standard pillow, but still large enough for your head.
The smaller footprint means it is not at all cumbersome, and Ortho-Cerv has a sturdy tote you can buy to place the pillow in to travel with.
A standard pillow case does the job, but it is a little roomy on the smaller travel pillow. I think I will purchase a smaller case for it, or make my own to fit it a bit better.
The Headleveler is hypo allergenic and can be washed by hand when needed. As with any down, feather or fiber filled pillow, the loft is best maintained by refluffing. This pillow is designed for supporting the weight of the neck and head, you should not use it as a back rest or as a seat cushion.
