If you spend a lot of time on Pinterest you’ll know that Pallet Art is a big thing right now. I’ve always wanted to make an art piece like that, but I’m not very creative. Luckily for me, our church started doing a Pinterest Party one night a month this summer and the project for July was Pallet Art. It was so fun to do and while mine isn’t by any means up to the creativity and skill of some of the ladies’ pieces, I placed it proudly in our Texas themed guest bedroom.
What you’ll need to make a pallet art piece similar to mine is:
A couple of boards nailed to some supporting pieces on the backside of the boards.
Sandpaper.
Enlarged outline on stock paper of a state/province
Scrapbook paper.
Spray adhesive.
Acrylic paints.
Stencils.
Sharpie.
Glue gun.
Jute cord.
Sand the boards down if you find they are still a bit rough, or if you want a more weathered look to your art piece.
The first thing you do is cut out the state from the stock paper. Then trace it on your scrapbook paper and cut it out.
Using the spray adhesive, spray the back of your state and adhere it to your pallet board where you’d like it to be. Once it’s on, it’s on – so make sure it’s where you want it to go!
Using paint, make a heart on the city in your state you want to mark. If you want it to stand out more outline it with a Sharpie.
Using a couple of colors of the acrylic paints and stencils I painted the phrase “Home is Wherever You Are” on the boards, in different styles.
Then with a glue gun I glued jute cord on to the cursive “You” to give it a bit of extra dimension.
This was the first Pinterest Party I have attended, and considering I had no idea what I was going to do when the evening started and only had 2 hours (and it took me about an hour just to decide a phrase to paint on!), I’m decently pleased with how it turned out.
For our next project in August, I’ll know to bring some of my own supplies to make it uniquely and creatively my own – I’ll be prepared!
Have you ever done a Pallet Art project before?
That is adorable. What a great idea, the Pinterest Party. I want to get some girlfriends together to do it!
Oh wow that looks really cute, you did a great job! Thanks for sharing how you did this, I might have to try it out soon!!! I love DIY Crafts!
This is totally adorable. I love the baler twine effect that you used.
Cute…I haven't done anything with pallets yet, but yes, they are all over Pinterest. I keep passing a big pile abandoned by some construction and wondering if they "need" those or not…lol.
Very cute, very nice idea for a rustic theme.
Oh my gosh, that is just too stinking cute. Love the fabric you used to cut out Texas.
How fun to do a Pinterest party. And I love the way this turned out, it is adorable.
This came out great! I love DIY crafts and love the pattern.
Love, love, love this!
Wow! That is such a cute idea and simple, too! 🙂 I have some easy access to some palettes.. so I should take advantage!
This is incredibly cute! It would add such a welcoming feel.
You used sandpaper? It is wonderful but I wish it was south dakota.
How neat is this! I haven't done any projects with pallets before, however, my son in law is always making something using pallets. I am going to be sure to show him this one! I love it!
This is something so simple and so beautiful!
Wow – what a great job! I love this.
This is cute! I haven't tried pallet art yet, but I have seen so many on Pinterest I want to try soon.
I just LOVE the look of this art piece and would love to make a Nevada version for our home. I will be pinning this to have on hand to create after our move.
I've seen different projects for pallets before. But I really love using it to make art.
