Being as we live 1200+ miles away from our family, the last 20 years rather than celebrating Thanksgiving we’ve always celebrated Friendsgiving. We have been so blessed to find friends that are family in the places we lived. Thanksgiving 2019 is a perfect time to start a Friendsgiving tradition yourself if you haven’t already done so.
We need to do our favorite things with the people we love. And two of the most favorite things we love to do is eating and watching movies. So this Friendsgiving we are doing both!
Disney’s Christopher Robin is coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on November 6! It is a must-see movie this Thanksgiving and we are excited to share it with our friends when we have our Friendsgiving together.
I have always felt a kinship to Winnie the Pooh since the “Winnie” part of his name comes from my home town Winnipeg! Winnie the Pooh has always given (albeit it often unknowingly!) sage advice to his friends, and in this movie he does the same but this time to help a grown-up Christopher Robin.
The fun-filled tale features A.A. Milne’s timeless characters from the Hundred Acre Wood —Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and Owl —making their first appearance as three-dimensional characters who remind Christopher Robin, and viewers of all ages, to appreciate the simple pleasures in life.
Christopher Robin is a movie for all ages. I feel it’s geared more toward adults, those of us that have ‘out grown’ our childhood wonder and need to find it again! But children of course will also enjoy the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the movie. This whimsical story has poignant lessons to teach both adults and children.
Bonus features provide a heartfelt look at the making of “Christopher Robin,” showcasing the magical artistry that brings the classic characters to life, the human actor’s techniques for interacting with stuffed animals, and the filmmakers’ passion for their project.
The computer-generated imagery in the movie is amazing, and you truly feel as if these stuffed toys are a part of the real world. They are just as you would imagine the ‘vintage’ Pooh gang would look if they came to life.
Christopher Robin is aesthetically filmed, the voice acting and live acting is terrific, and all said is a movie that leaves you having done some introspection rather than just having entertained when you’re done watching. This has truly been one of my favorite movies of 2018. I know I felt more grateful for my friends and the simple things in life when I had finished viewing it, and I hope you will too.
In the words of Winnie the Pooh: “There’s always time for a smackeral of wonder.” Which in Pooh Bear speak may also mean a sweet ‘hunny’ treat! And so we made these Hunny Bear Chocolate Chip Bars inspired by Christopher Robin to share for our Friendsgiving get together.
Here is the recipe for you:
- ½ cup oil
- ⅓ cup honey
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1½ cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅔ cup chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Grease an 8x8 pan (or use non-stick spray)
- In a mixer combine the oil, honey, brown sugar and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add the egg and mix.
- Add in the flour and salt and mix.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Spread into pan and bake for 30 minutes or until done in the center.
A few tips; 1. measure the honey in the same cup as the oil and it will slide right out!
2. I baked these in a 12-cavity Brownie Pan and it makes them perfect for packaging up for gift giving. If you choose to bake them in a pan that has single pieces, lower the temperature to 340 F and bake for 25 minutes.
“Christopher Robin” will be packaged and released in several different formats, giving families the flexibility to watch the film on a variety of different devices.
Viewers can instantly watch the film in Digital HD and SD, and bring home a physical copy of the film as a Multi-Screen Edition (Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy) or a single DVD. November 6, 2018.

This is such a good family movie. We checked it out in the theater and now I want to get a copy for at home.
These look super yummy. My grandsons would love these.
