By ★ SimonPixThe first New Year’s Eve ball dropped from atop a flagpole at One Times Square at the stroke of midnight in 1908.
The original ball, was made from iron and wood and weighed 700 pounds!
The ball they use today sparkles so brightly because it’s covered in Waterford crystals.
The ball has gained a little weight over the years (much like many of us!!), it now weighs a whopping 11,875 pounds! Wowee!
Do you tune in to watch the ball drop?

Since it drops at 11:00pm my time, I can make it. Midnight is too late for me!
Happy New Year!
I watch every year (since I was a kid). I had no idea the ball weighed that much!
