Bound For Barcelona – We Made It!

Barcelona, is the second largest city in Spain.  It is situated in the heart of the Catalonia region.  Barcelona preserves its historic palaces, museums and centuries-old churches.

Barcelona’s known history begins with the ancient Romans, who settled it in 15 BC.  Some of the city walls still remain.

Subsequent centuries would see rule by the Visigoths, Moors and eventually the Spanish.  As a result, modern day Barcelona boasts palaces, churches and government buildings of several architectural styles.

Barcelona is a great spot for indulging your sweet tooth.  We proved that by taking a tour at the mx museu de la xocolata.  We got to attend a workshop where we learned about the origins of cacao, the Catalan traditions involving Easter and chocolate, as well as making chocolate figures and manipulating chocolate like a professional.

When our workshop was over we toured the museum that is full of chocolate sculptures.

After that we took a tour around the Gothic Quarter which is known for its narrow streets and architecture.

We finished our day by spending time on La Rambla.  A mile long street packed end to end with people, shops and restaurants.  We stopped at the market and bought some candy and walked to the end where a monument to Christopher Columbus stands.

And now our trip is done and with sad hearts we said good bye to Mickey and the Disney Magic.  But we have another cruise to look forward to next year in August on the Disney Wonder.  We’re heading to Alaska.  That should be fun and exciting not just because of the destination, but also because we have a new ship to explore, as we haven’t sailed on the Wonder before!
