Dad says he wants a drone for Father’s Day. Then he retracts that by saying “Just Kidding… sort of.” A few years ago the idea of the average consumer owning a camera drone wasn’t really out there, but as of late, new strides and technologies have made that idea more of a reality. 3D Robotics and their new Solo Drone, which Best Buy stores started carrying June 8th, are making consumers dream to new heights (literally!).
You could buy the Solo for dad at over 400 Best Buy stores this week for Father’s Day, and on Sunday he can immediately start capturing stunning HD aerial photography and videography with easy, right out of the box setup. It’s the first-ever drone powered by two integrated Linux computers, making capturing the perfect shot easy for anyone, (so easy a caveman or even my dad could do it!).
That means that you have to concentrate less on controlling the drone and you can concentrate more on getting the perfect shot!
Solo has some really innovative features. This intelligent drone is also the first to support full control of GoPro® cameras and deliver live HD video either wirelessly to your mobile device or through the controller’s HDMI port for live broadcasts. It also has this feature called Cablecam, where you lock Solo onto a virtual cable between any two points in space. Then, using just one stick on the controller, you can move Solo up and down the cable.
My husband is a huge nerd, and generally an early adopter in consumer technology, but he really isn’t into video or photography very much. When I asked him if a drone would be something he would like, I was a little surprised he said that it would be cool to own one. “For what?!” I questioned him. A long list of reasons it seems! Two of which actually made complete sense to me. He said it would be great to take with us on vacations, to get a bird’s eye view and footage and photos that we wouldn’t other wise. Also for practical purposes…he could get a good look at the roof of our home, without having to climb up there himself. (I mean how could I argue with that reason, right?!) Plus he just wants a new gadget to play around with (and be the first of his friends to have it!). In his defense, the Solo does look like fun!
I would totally want to play with the Follow Me feature. Solo can follow where you go, automatically keeping the camera on you to capture your every move. Talk about the ultimate Selfie Cam!
