Back when we first got married, between my husband’s job and mine we weren’t raking in big bucks.  So when we decided that I’d be a stay-at-home mom, the little income I did make went “poof” and we needed to get creative sometimes when it came to making ends meet.

Besides eating a. lot. of macaroni and cheese, there were times I’d brew my coffee grounds twice (ugh, I think back to that now and I totally cringe that I ever did that!).  I was teased in my family for wiping down my aluminum foil and I was never too proud to scoop up leftovers from my mom or mother-in-law if we were invited to dinner.

The funniest thing though during that time was an invitation I received to earn some money by being part of a focus group.  It was for a body lotion and by using it and letting the research group know what I thought of it, I would get a pretty good stipend.  Pretty good deal right?  If only!  I ended up getting a horrible rash, all over my body that truthfully was not at all worth the check that I received in the end.

Oh the things we’ll do when we’re broke!

That though is nothing compared to those hilariously funny 2 Broke Girls on CBS.  And in case you didn’t know 2 Broke Girls has moved to a NEW TIME – Mondays at 8:30/7:30 c.

2 BROKE GIRLS is a comedy about the unlikely friendship that develops between two very different young women who meet waitressing at a diner in trendy Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and form a bond over their dream of one day owning their own successful cupcake business.  Only one thing stands in their way – they’re broke.

Sarcastic, street-smart Max Black met the sophisticated, school-smart Caroline Channing when the uptown trust fund princess was having a run of bad luck due to her father’s Wall Street scandal, which caused her to lose all her money and forced her to give waitressing a shot.  At first, Max sees Caroline as an entitled rich girl, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max’s knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she visualizes a lucrative future for them and they begin to save money to reach their start-up money goal of $250,000.  As the girls’ cupcake tally expands week-to-week, they become closer to their goal and to each other.

At the diner they are surrounded by their offbeat, colorful “work family”: Oleg, an overly flirtatious cook; Earl, a hip 75-year-old cashier; Han, the eager-to-please owner of the diner; and Sophie, the girls’ outrageous upstairs neighbor.

As Max and Caroline climb toward their goal, we see that their “smarts” plus their “hearts” might just be the recipe for success.

Do you watch 2 Broke Girls?  Have you ever been broke and done something ‘creative’ to make ends meet?   Share with us in the comments if you have – misery loves company, LOL!

  1. I definitely know what it's like to be broke! I was a single mom for 10 years, but that didn't compare to being a married mom of 4 when my husband started over as an apprentice. We find creative ways to make it all work!

  2. That's whats wrong with kids today, they want it all now and can't wait to work and get it slowly. Once we had to have a yard sale just to pay the phone bill. You have to crawl before you can walk, so you do appreciate it more when you work hard for it.

  3. I haven't watched this show, but I really enjoy a lot of other CBS comedies, so I'd love to give it a shot. Your lotion story made me giggle!

  4. I used to watch this show regularly, but I never have time to watch it when it is on, and now you can't watch past episodes anywhere, so I don't watch it anymore.

  5. We like this show too. 🙂 Oleg is HILARIOUS. I love in the premiere episode when Max says she thinks they started washing the forks and Oleg just shakes his head "no." haha

  6. Been there, done that, and have the t-shirt to prove it! I'm still not exactly racking in the big dough, yet things are much better for me now. ~lol~ I love this show! 🙂

  7. That's awful with the body lotion, ugh! I do remember times of eating a lot of pb sandwiches! I've seen this show on occasion. Max is pretty funny.
