Alice in Wonderland for the Nintendo DS and Wii

Ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole to play one of Disney's newest game?  That's right, Tim Burton's film 'Alice in Wonderland' has brought two new games to the table - one for the DS and one for the Wii.

Guest posting today's review, is my 13 year old daughter Amber, who is far more qualified than I am to do video game reviews.  You could say it's a subject she excels at, lol!  So on to what Amber has to say:

Alice in Wonderland for the DS starts you off as the White Rabbit (otherwise known as McTwisp), who has arrived in Underland with Alice.  After being schooled through the whats and hows of playing the game by Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, you'll start your adventure.  Your part is playing the four characters (the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat , and the Mad Hatter) that will lead Alice around.

Underland is being ripped apart by the Jabberwocky, and only Alice can defeat it.  To do that, however, you need to find the Vorpal Sword and the Legendary Armor.  No pressure, right?

The controls for the game can be a little confusing at first, as the game uses the stylus for most everything.  This can make combat frustrating at times, especially when Alice gets in your way.  Most of the important play does have her out of the way, though.

The graphics are adorable, especially the cartoon Alice.  The scenery can be dizzying at times, however.  The simpleness of each level, but the uniqueness as well, is what I think gives the areas their charm.

Overall I enjoyed the game, although I expected a bit more of a challenge from the famed Jabberwocky after I finished the game.

I was also given the chance to play the Wii version of Alice in Wonderland.  My companion, Megan, and I tackled the co-op version of the game, which acts a lot like the way a friend can play similar Wii games.

The idea is the same as the DS version: you play members of the Underland Resistance and guide Alice around to find the Vorpal Sword so that she can slay the Jabberwocky!  You start out playing McTwisp and the Dormouse (who's name eludes me) and later recruit the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat to your party.

Much like the DS game, it takes a bit of time to get used to the controls.  The camera angle might also bug you at first, especially if you're playing with a friend.  Megan kept complaining that the camera followed me (player one) instead of her!

Due to the different console, the Wii version has much more realistic graphics.  the areas of Underland appear to be nearly the same as the DS ones, but the ability to make the areas have more detailed scenery give them a whole new dimension.  The voice-acting was also well done, (but we thought the Mad Hatter sounded a bit too much like Jack Sparrow...), and I loved Alice's British accent.

On the topic of Alice, she's doesn't get in the way in the Wii version (although she constantly repeats the same few lines when you're traveling) as she does in the DS game.  No accidental clicking on Alice when you're trying to destroy card knights!

During the co-op playing, the first boss we encountered was the Bandersnatch.  Our impression was that the fight took a lot of precise timing and coordination between the two of us.  I'm not sure, since I haven't tried single player, if the fights are done to be easier for one person.

The Wii version of the game was excellent, and I can't wait to see if the Jabberwocky puts up more of a fight on it or not.

I'd suggest these games to anyone, as they're well-made and incredibly fun to play.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland for the DS and the Wii are available in stores nationwide.
