Ballroom Bonanza, Mammoths and Mastodons
Two new books for kids from Abrams Books.
Ballroom Bonanza: A Hidden Pictures ABC Book by Stephen Harris and Nina Rycroft presents the 26 letters of the alphabet using dance phrases that rhyme with delightful watercolor, gouache and colored pencil illustrations (done by Nina Rycroft). Amid the fun and brilliant art, each musical instrument shown on the inside covers are hidden, allowing children another way to engage in the book. The animals taking part in the Ballroom Bonanza certainly have a lot of flair, as well as a large vocabulary, which makes this a great book to use in a homeschool setting if you have children that span multiple ages. The younger ones can concentrate on working on their alphabet and sounds, and the older ones can be encouraged to get out their dictionary and learn the definitions of what may be to them some new words. Children of all ages will have fun, looking for the missing instruments.
Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age by Cheryl Bardoe (in association with The Field Museum of Chicago). Bardoe
is a very talented writer who journeys into the past to piece together mammoths' physiology and its habitats and habits. The photography and illustrations in the book give you a very real sense of what the mammoths were like and how scientists are using fossils to learn more about them. Interestingly the research being found, can maybe help save elephants of today from extinction.
*I'd like to note that while this book does not talk about evolution, it does state that the Earth is millions of years old. I am a strong believer in a young Earth, therefore I personally could not reconcile the time line of the book.

Ballroom Bonanza looks really fun and would be perfect for my kids. My oldest ones love the "I spy" type books, and the little ones are working on their letters. I'll have to check out this book!
thank you for adding that the book does not promote evalution. I m always leary to buy books that might possibly work evalution in!
I'm sure my daughter would absolutely love "Ballroom Bonanza." I will definitely keep an eye out for it at my local library.
