Sakar Underwater Digital Camera For Kids

Sakar SpongeBob Squarepants Underwater Digital Camera Features:

  • Use in or out of water
  • Case is waterproof up to 30 feet
  • USB cable for quick and easy dowloand
  • Uses 2 AAA batteries (not included)

We brought this camera on our cruise fully intending to put it through rigorous testing while snorkeling on Castaway Cay.  Unfortunately the ocean was a bit too chilly to spend any length of time in, so like the sissies we are...we tried it out using the ship's pool and hot tub, lol!

The camera is very light, and we put in the AAA batteries before we left home, and they haven't run out yet, so I'd say the battery life is fairly good.  The manual says the camera can hold 152 to 208 photos, bu that is on the lowest resolution and compression, which I wouldn't recommend.  Using the highest setting you can get 26 photos on the internal memory.  There is no memory card expansion.

For the price of $29.99, you are really paying for the feature of the underwater housing unit.  The camera takes okay pictures, but it's only a 640 x 480 resolution so you're not going to get poster quality prints out of this.  If you are looking for something for your kids to take memories of at the beach, pool or water park, you won't have to worry about breaking an expensive camera should it get wet or dropped in the water.  And taking underwater pictures is very fun!

This is a camera to use in daylight.  There is no flash, and we tried using it indoors but the pictures didn't turn out very well.  You can see that with adequate sunlight, the pictures turn out fine.  It is easy to set up on the computer and load up the included Snap Shots software.  If you do digital scrapbooking and have some SpongeBob fans in your home, the stickers and frames in the package are a great addition to use.  The software also has a Creativity Park and 5 fun games for kids to play with.

This seems like it would be fun for our kids because none of our cameras can go underwater. I do not think I would buy it for the quality though.
