Energizer Keep Safe. Keep Going Emergency Power Kit Giveaway

Severe weather events affect everyone no matter where you live. Families are at risk for potentially harmful and serious outcomes when storms cause power outages.   Being fully prepare for such a situation means having an emergency power kit ready when unavoidable and inconvenient power outages occur, which can minimize the affect it has on your family.

The Energizer Keep Safe. Keep Going public safety campaign was developed when it was recognized that there was a need for people across the country needed to be prepared with back-up supplies (both power supplies and other necessities) other than candles. Partnering together Energizer, the International Fire Chiefs Association (IAFC) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) alongside more than 6,200 fire departments, work at helping families stay connected and powered by providing tips for building complete emergency power kits.

Chief Jeffrey Johnson, EFO, CFO, MIFireE and president of the IAFC stresses "the importance of using flashlights and lanterns instead of candles during power outages.  Candles cause an average of nearly 15,000 home fires each year, resulting in significant numbers of preventable injuries and deaths.  An emergency power kit can literally be a beacon of light in a storm and can help prevent needless home fires caused by candles."

What to Include in Your Emergency Power Kit

  • Battery-powered radio or crank radio, to keep you family apprised of current weather related news.
  • Plenty of extra batteries.  Lithium batteries have a long storage life, perform well in extreme temperatures and are perfect for use in LED flashlights and other high-tech devices.
  • Flashlight for every member of the family.  Use flashlights instead of candles when the power goes out.  The Energizer Weatheready flashlights feature long-lasting LED technology.
  • Battery powered cell phone charger.  Energizer Energi To Go power packs help keep cell phones charged.
  • Extra specialty batteries.  For things like hearing aids, blood glucose and blood pressure monitors.

In addition to back-up power, it is important to gather additional emergency supplies such as water and nonperishable food and to be sure to have copies of important documents such as medical records and insurance papers.  For a complete list of of tips for preparing for storms and important home fire safety tips, visit www.energizer.com/preparedness.

Energizer is wanting one of my readers to Keep Safe.  Keep Going with their own Emergency Power Kit. The Kit includes:

Battery Powered Radio, Energizer Ultimate Lithium and Energizer MAX Batteries, Energizer Weather Ready Flashlight, Energizer Energi To Go Power Pack, an Anibacterial Wet Wipe and a Keep Safe. Keep Going bag.

There is a fairly extensive Emergency Checklist on the Energizer site, but I think I would add things like a deck of playing cards, books, and dental hygeine items.

Thank you. :-)
