Kooloos Snacks from Seapoint Farms

If someone decided to play word association with me using the word "snacks", I would probably counter that word with, chips, pretzels or cookies.  I really doubt that the words soy nut or flaxseed would come out of my mouth.  But lone behold, those words could be associated with the word snacks, and actually should be associated with the word snacks.  Better yet next time someone plays that game with me, I will shout out KooLoos!

Yes, KooLoos (because Soy Nuts & Flaxseed just doesn't have the same ring when shouted!).  If you haven't translated my dithering yet, let me explain; KooLoos are over roasted soy nuts and flaxseed.  And while they may not sound like something you'd want to whip out at your next canasta game or while watching football, you may want to give them a try.
Ever since the doctor told Hubby he needs to watch his cholesterol Omega 3 has become a buzz word in our home.  So Hubby was eager to try these as he is continually on the lookout to add foods with Omega 3 and flaxseed on our pantry shelves.

So why choose KooLoos?

  • Rich in Omega 3 Fatty Acid
  • A good source of soy protein
  • Heart-healthy
  • Cholesterol-free
  • Trans Fat-free
  • Contain 20 mg of isoflavones per serving
  • 3 grams of fiber per serving

KooLoos come in three flavors; Original, Honey BBQ and Salsa.

As you can see from the pictures, KooLoos are about the size of a peanut and the flax seeds are quite visible.  They really are very different looking than any snack I've seen before.

They have a neat texture, they're crunchy and not at all oily.

We started off with the Original flavor before we opened the other bags.  My first impression was that they tasted a bit like pumpkin seeds.  Okay that was also my second and third impression.  I'm a big fan of pumpkin seeds so this flavor of KooLoos was a hit in my book.  None of the mess of cracking shells, and a more substantial snack then pumpkin seeds as well.

I also really liked the Honey BBQ.  I was eating them during a phone conversation with my mom.  I think she was a bit put out by all the crunching, we did talk for two hours though and by the time we were done it didn't bug her anymore, oh that might be because, I ate the whole bag during the call, so there was none left by the end of it. .

The Salsa has a bit of kick to it.  Not likely a flavor I would choose to purchase again but then I'm not a fan of spicy.

So Hubby liked the Original well enough, the guy is a pretty picky eater, so that says something, he said this is something he could see himself eating while watching tv or tossing back a small handful when he comes home from work to tie him over until dinner.  My daughter, well she chose not to participate in this taste taste.

I think KooLoos make a good alternative snack to chips or nachos.  It's a different way to satisfy that snacking urge, and know that you are doing so in a healthy way.

KooLoos are available at certain retail locations across the country, not surprisingly though my affectionate state of Podunk is the only state is the only one in the lower 48 that doesn't sell them (thank goodness for Amazon.com).  If you want to try them, you can check the location option at SeaPoint Farms to find out where you can buy them near you.

These sound interesting! I have never heard of them before, now have I seen them in my local stores... but I will have to keep an eye out for them in the future, thanks!

I'd like to try these. I am always on the look out for healthier options for snacking foods. I like that they include flaxseed. I try to include flaxseed in my diet for the omega 3's and because they aid with digestion and regularity. And Dr. Oz says to try to include flaxseed in our diets, and I agree!

Thanks again for the great review of KooLoos! Seapoint Farms put together a video to inspire kids to snack healthier which involved the KooLoos. We thought you might like it. Take a look when you have a chance :)
