Summer Daily Brainwork - Review & Giveaway
Do you want your child to use their brain cells this summer? If so then a good thing to give them would be the Summer Daily Brainwork book by Pennington Publishing.
Some of you may be asking: "Why should I have my children do school work over the summer break?" There are lots of very good reasons. Here are a just a few of them that Summer Daily Brainwork will provide in order for your child to retain what they learned in the past school year, as well as grow for the next one.
* Helpful Study Skills.
* You can help your child find their weaknesses by having them complete introspective assessments.
* Learn what types of books will challenge your child to become a better reader and increase their vocabulary.
* Reinforce concepts already known and build upon them.
The 40 study skill lessons included in this self-guided book will teach your child to work smarter not harder. Students who master the skills taught will spend less time on school work and accomplish more.
We continue to homeschool during the summer months just so Amber will spend some of the summer days when she is not with her friends, being productive rather than watching tv or playing video games (which is her favorite pastime when not doing school work).
We have incorporated Summer Daily Brainwork into our school days though, and I am very impressed with this product.
Amber has already learned a more efficient way to read through texts and answer study questions. She has found out how to recognize books that will be more challenging for her to read. Parts of speech have been reinforced for writing assignments and she has finished her daily school work in record time. All this with NO help from me.
Quite honestly she hasn't enjoyed taking the assessments at the beginning of the lessons, but I think that is mostly because she does not appreciate criticism, nor does she take it well (she is 13 mind you!). She also said she wishes the reflection questions at the end of the lessons, which allow the student to make goals and be held accountable, were not exactly the same for each lesson. She felt that was somewhat redundant.
This self-study guide is geared for middle school and up so you may not get hugs and kisses from your kids now if you get this and use it in your home, but the sure understanding of study skills and efficiency is bound to get you a thank you once they're in college!
You can view a sample of Summer Daily Brainwork at Currclick.com. Pennington Publishing has a variety of publications for instruction for your homeschool or extra work if your student needs it. These would be a great resource for teachers as well. They have a number of Diagnostic Assessments available free for download too if you need to gauge where your child lands in a particular area.
