Thomas Nelson who has been in the publishing industry since 1798, had recently published a Bible with added content about how the Word of God shaped America. The American Patriot's Bible.

Interspersed between the Biblical text are quotes from famous Americans that show a vastly different view of who they sought wisdom from then a lot of what goes on in the government today.

While it is dubbed a "study" Bible, my belief is, that it is not. The articles and comments that are in it tell about great moments in American history and stories of faith of those who had leadership roles in many different aspects of the young country. They do not go about explaining or expounding on the meaning of the verses they are set next to or above or below, they are simply informative.

I think that the articles, comments and quotes within the pages could have been published on their own in a separate book, simply entitled "The Word of God and the Shaping of America" (which is the subtitle for this Bible) since they have no bearing on explaining the Biblical text.

I will however use this Bible frequently. Why? For two reasons. Simply put, the additional content can be a balanced counterpart to secular American History. Secondly, I am not American, I know little about American history and I plan on using it to supplement our homeschooling this year as we take American History in Social Studies. Would I have purchased it if I had not received it for a review. No I don't believe I would have.

I have seen a lot of negative reviews about this Bible and some of the comments made are valid and justified. But there is plenty good within this Bible as much as there is to criticize. I would encourage you if anyone has interest in it to go to a local bookstore (I saw it on the shelf at our Barnes & Noble), and flip through it yourself before you make a decision to purchase it.
