I'm a big advocator of dental health. See, my parents had good dental insurance and we always did the 2x a year checkups, but they weren't sticklers for the brushing 3x a day or the flossing. So I brushed in the mornings and at nights if I wasn't "running late" or "too tired." Then I graduated high school and suddenly found myself without insurance. So it was years before I visited the dentist, because I had better things to do with my money, ya know?! When I got married I was hooked up again with some great dental insurance through my husband's work and went to to the dentist for a cleaning.

Holidays are known as being the most wonderful time of the year, but they can also be mom’s nightmare when it comes to their children’s oral health. From candy canes to ginger bread men, kids all over are enjoying the holidays and using them as an excuse to get their sugar fix.
Dr. Jennifer Salzer, mom of 4, orthodontist and dentist has some great tips for surviving the holiday season while maintaining healthy teeth for your children.
I drink a lot of coffee and tea which of course after periods of time stains the teeth. We recently had family pictures taken at my brother's wedding in November, and while I knew I didn't have "white" teeth, I was a little taken aback at how yellow they actually appeared in the photos. I definitely wanted to change the look of that and brighten them so they looked more polished. Here's the thing; I WANT to take back my smile -- to not be embarrassed or worried about how it looks to others, and I realize that If You're Not Whitening, You're Yellowing. Yikes! Who would purposely want to do that?!
Halloween = candy, candy and more candy. And that’s really just the start of the season, because then comes Christmas and Valentines and Easter…and then we get a break again…until Halloween and the cycle begins again!
When I was a kid I had a friend whose father was a dentist. We knew every year that when we trick-or-treated at her door that we’d get a toothbrush in our bag!
About a month ago I let you all know that I was going to be doing a Test Drive for some of Crest and Oral-B’s new Pro-Health Clinical products. I knew to expect good quality items as we use Crest in our home all the time, but I wasn’t sure if it would be ‘better’ than the Crest/Oral-B products we currently use.
One of the benefits of the Crest and Oral-B Pro-Clinical Plaque Control products is that they are supposed to give you that clean feeling you have when you go to the dentist.
I will be the first one to admit that the dental hygienist is not on my favorite people to visit list. That being said, because of the lack of dental insurance I had when I was a young adult and subsequent teeth cleaning scaling I had because I had not visited the dentist in a couple of years, I now take my family’s oral health care very seriously.
As my regular readers know, I review a number of different brands on my site for all different kinds of products, but the brands I trust completely and am very loyal to for healthy teeth is Crest and Oral-B.
Back in October I enjoyed speaking with Dr. Salzer to find helpful answers to those Halloween candy questions I had. Dr.Salzer has developed some great tips for surviving the holidays while maintaining healthy teeth.
As the race towards the holidays heats up, moms everywhere are dreading the influx of snacks, cookies and sweet treats their children will face throughout the holiday season – but what they may not realize is how bad these foods can be for their children’s teeth. Believe it or not, candy is not the worst snack children can eat.
