Low Calorie Sunset Floats

Low Calorie Sunset Floats - Using Yogurt & Fruit instead of Ice Cream and Sunkist TEN & Canada Dry TEN - You have festive drinks without all the calories!

I know a good many of you have already been hit with a deep freeze this year.  While it's not quite so cold in North Texas, it's still pretty nippy and what I wouldn't do to spend a few days in the tropics.  Since that won't be happening any time soon, I whipped up some tropical flavored floats.  Being as the holidays are just around the corner and I'd prefer to watch my calories sooner rather than later, I made these to be low calorie using Sunkist TEN and Canada Dry TEN.  All of the flavor of an ice cream float, but using fruit, yogurt and the #drinkTEN sodas, a lot lower in calories than a traditional one.

Grilled Cocoa Pebbles Banana S'mores

S'mores are a favorite summer treat for most everyone, but if you want to switch it up a bit, a great way to do it is to add a banana to the mix.

Now I'm a big fan of bananas in any way, shape or form, but if you've never had grilled bananas before the texture might take a while to get used to.  The bananas do get soft, especially if they are at peak ripeness, plus as you probably know bananas get brown when they get warm.

Strawberry Banana Summer 'Soup' & Ice Pops

Strawberry Banana Summer "Soup"

Oh yes, I do have summer on the brain!  I'm perfecting my cool, refreshing recipes for the hot Texas summer.  After getting 2 lbs. of fresh strawberries on sale at the grocery store the other day, I was in full on experimental mode in the kitchen.  I wanted to create a dessert that would finish off a grill out that would be light but still pack a flavor punch.  I think I achieved that, I even made a 'kid' version by freezing it in plastic cups for ice pops.

Summer Popsicle Recipes

In case some of you haven't been watching the national weather, it's HOT here in Texas!  Since our family seems to get caught up in Murphy's Law more often than not, it's really no surprise that not only did it work out that we moved here smack dab in the middle of July, but that there would be a heat wave going on too!  The other day it soared up to temperatures where the heat index hit 108!

Chocolate Breakfast Shake

Ever wonder how some chef's stay so skinny? For some of them I'm pretty sure it's because they know that if they eat food that is loaded with nutrients and protein they'll stay full and keep their energy up for hours at a time.

Take this Chocolate Shake that you can make for breakfast that Jennifer Iserloh created (adapted from Secrets of a Skinny Chef - 2010) filled with power foods!

Banana NUT•rition Bites Recipe Featuring Planters Energy Mix

I believe in the nut•rition-al power of peanut butter. In my home there is no rationing of peanut butter, everyone can have as much as they like whenever they like.

I got some GOOD peanut butter the other day, new Planters NUT•rition Energy Mix, which features flavors like Banana Granola Nut, Berry Nut and Cinnamon Raisin Granola Nut.

BanaNutty Cupcakes Recipe and a Give Away

We’ve just recently become of aware of the fact that our daughter may have become lactose intolerant. This is a VERY difficult thing for her as she drank milk like other kids want soda. It was challenging pinpointing where her stomach troubles were coming from, but it seems to result from dairy.

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze is a great alternative for those that are lactose intolerant. It’s not sweet and has a nice delicate flavor. If you want to increase the sweetness a bit, you can try the Vanilla flavoring of their products. You’ll still have the natural goodness of the almonds and a little kick of sweet with the vanilla flavoring. It’s also available in a Chocolate flavor as well.

Tattoo A Banana And Other Ways To Turn Anything and Everything Into Art

One of the best perks of homeschooling is that you get to choose what you do to teach.  Amber LOVES art, and we encourage her to draw whenever she can.  She’s very talented and is looking into a career where she can use that skill, but this mom/teacher knows that for ‘art class’ we have to broaden our horizons to include more than just drawing.

So we are quite excited to be bringing ‘TATTOO A BANANA and Other Ways to Turn Anything and Everything into Art’ by PHIL HANSEN into our homeschool art class this year.
