Lazy Cake Pops ~ For Those of Us With No Time...or Talent

You've seen them, you've oohed, you've ahhed, you've bookmarked and pinned.  And then you whimper just a bit, because you know you could never create those awesome Cake Pops you keep seeing all over the internet.  You just don't have the time to make marshmallow fondant to sculpt beaks and tails.  Or if you're like me - you just don't have the talent to do it.  It's an art, a craft.  But what if I told you....You can make cake pops - quickly with just two ingredients and some sprinkles.  And they look kind of like this:

So the next time your kids scream "I WANT CAKE POPS" you can be supermom and make them the lazy way.

LAZY CAKE POPS

Ingredients:

• Boxed Cream Filled Sponge Cakes (like Twinkies or the Store Brand, I used Little Debbie Cloud Cakes) Frozen or Refrigerated
• Container of Store Bought Icing (Any flavor - I had some Christmas Pillsbury left over that's why mine are green)

Directions:

To make your Lazy Cake Pops even easier, first take a plastic fork and break off the two middle tines.  This will be your "dipping" utensil.

Take your frozen or refrigerated sponge cakes and cut each one into four pieces.

Taking the lid and foil off the icing container, microwave for 30 seconds and then stir.

Now using your dipping utensil, place one piece of sponge cake on it, and dip it completely in the melted icing. Pull it back out and let the excess drip back into the container.

While the icing is still 'wet' sprinkle some garnish on.  I used sprinkles, but you could use colored sugars or powdered sugars, drizzle a different color of icing over to make a pattern.  Whatever your kids want to do!

Now put them back in the freezer or fridge and let the icing set.  I had mine in the fridge for about 45 minutes and that wasn't quite long enough.  When I put the straws in them I did put some imprints in the sides of the icing with my fingertips (oops!).  So I suggest setting them up in the freezer.

You can use the traditional 'lollipop stick' that most use for cake pops, or if you're lazy like me and didn't want to run out to the store, you could use straws, or popsicle sticks.
