So my daughter and I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning out her room.
She’s turning 16 in a week and a half and we felt it was time to let go of some of her “treasures” by finding them another home or filing them under “G” (for garbage). When she was young, she did a lot of ‘collecting’. Interestingly, she always did a have a place for everything so her room has never really been cluttered. But with the reality of starting college in a couple of years, her upcoming birthday inspired a clean sweep through her room.
It was actually kind of fun going through all those things, many items that she created in school or with her friends over the years. Their imaginations were quite wild at times.
Helping us out in this task were Glad Black Bags. They helped us collect donations for other kids to enjoy some toys and books, as well as those items that simply were played out and will be put out to the curb. The ForceFlex Glad Black Bag’s Diamond Texture is awesome. I KNOW that most other brands would have had holes in them from old school folders, chopsticks and party hats! We filled that bag right up and it stood up to being carried down a flight of stairs without ripping or tearing.
Thank goodness we didn’t need the Glad OdorShield Black Bags, but those would be ideal for the kitchen or garage by helping neutralize the smell of your ickiest garbage.
My daughter and her friends are the only ones that have ‘wild’ imaginations – The Picker Sisters have built their business on the old adage “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” (ummm…they obviously didn’t see what we threw out today!). Along the way, they discovered that some of the best finds are the ‘remnants’ of life’s wild moments. Things that are created for or broken in our biggest celebrations that can be repurposed in new ways honoring the memory of that moment in time, but creating a new great style.
I love this tip they give:
Refresh key pieces
Looking to freshen up your dining room chairs because they’ve endured their fair share of spills? Don’t throw them out. It may be easier than you think to reupholster the cushions with a fresh, new print, or, perhaps something spill-proof. With just a few key tools – such as an electric staple gun, pliers and screw driver – and you can have a fresh-looking dining set.
I so need to do that with my dining room chairs! (Maybe I can just cover them with some Glad Black Bags?!)
Glad Black Bag is showing the beauty and benefits of turning trash into treasures, by taking the Picker Sister’s expertise and teaming up with mosaic artist Jason Mecier.
Mosaic artist Mecier created four works of art using trash, “wild life remnants”, as well as items donated by celebrities. These unique works of art will be auctioned off during the Glad Black Bag art auction on eBay for consumers to bid on, from April 16 through April 26, with proceeds benefiting Keep America Beautiful’s Great America Cleanup. Glad has a long partnership with KAB (27 years!) – working together to engage people to take a larger responsibility to improve the environments in their local communities.
Take a peek at the 4 pieces of art. Which one do you like best?
With the new documentary Chimpanzee coming out for Earth Day – I think the Chimpanzee art picture is very appropriate! I also love the one with the Duck.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Glad Black Bag and received a Glad Black Bag product and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. I was also asked to "pin" one (1) Glad Black Bag Art Auction photo on Pinterest.
