Buzz and Woody are Going on a Cruise

by hykuI spend far too much time aimlessly surfing the web each day.  I admit it.  But that’s where I get most of my entertainment news, I’m not sure entirely if that’s a good or bad thing.  In any case I came across some fun information today about Buzz and Woody going on a cruise.

Well not really Buzz and Woody – but really Tim Allen and Tom Hanks – well not really them either.  See Disney signed them up to do a live-action movie based upon the ‘Jungle Cruise’ ride in the Disney Parks.  How fun does that sound?!

No Green Thumb Here

I am pretty much inept at growing things.  No matter what I've tried to grow in the past, if you saw it, you'd think a drought passed through.  It's a power struggle between me and the soil, and the dirt always wins.  Of course, my husband can grow nearly anything, which is pretty much the only reason we don't have Fake plants in our home.

I can't even keep cut flowers alive, so it makes me wince when someone gifts me with them.

Barber Foods Seasoned Selects Giveaway

Do you have a wacky or hilarious last-minute dinner drama moment?  I’m sure you do, we all do!  So I’m going to let you in on mine, the one that I’ve kept a secret for a long time.

It has to do with making honeyed carrots.  I had one of those great microwave pots from Pampered Chef.  I loved it.  I made virtually all my veggies in it for dinner.  My family doesn’t care for carrots terribly much, but if I add some honey to them and sweeten them up, they’ll eat them.

A Most Relaxing Memory

Have you ever wished you could just while away a day at the edge of the ocean, just relaxing with a cool breeze bringing in the scent of the sea?

The other day I was sitting in my living room, with a Shoreline scented candle burning, while I was surfing the web on a site with a Bamboo rug.  Just then something triggered my memory.  Smells and photos

Wise Words for Marriage

When we were engaged to be married, the pastor who was marrying us, required pre marriage counseling.  Some of the wise words he imparted to us were that marriage is not a contract it's a covenant.  If you want to know exactly what that means, look up both words in the dictionary and you'll see the difference between them.

He also gave us some 'marriage math'.  In marriage your problems are halved and your joys are doubled.

My husband and I will be celebrating 17 years of marriage next month.  It hasn't always been easy but recalling those words has pushed me more than once into dropping my

Switched-On Schoolhouse FACS is Not Your Mother’s Home Ec

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family's experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

When I was in Junior High I took three years of Home Economics.  I’m dating myself by telling you it was almost 25 years ago.  We’re talking old school, girls only, cooking and sewing.  Now I can honestly say I did learn a thing or two.  I learned foundational cooking and baking skills that have served me well over the years.  I can also sew decently, the most important thing learned from those units being hemming since I am only 4’9”.  But that was the extent of our learning in Home Ec…cooking and sewing.

Baby Driver

I drive a 12 ½ year old Honda CR-V, which we affectionately call Plucky 2 (our first car was a Honda Civic, which we dubbed ‘Plucky’).  Plucky 2 has served us so well over the years.  We bought her when we needed a second vehicle because my husband could no longer take the bus to work (the commute was just too long).

It’s hard to believe that I’ve had Plucky 2 that long.  She still runs fantastic and only has a teeny tiny spot of rust here and there.  Alas I know she will not last forever, and we will need to get a new vehicle in the next few years to replace her.

When Life Comes at You Fast...

Have you seen that episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy and Ethel get jobs on a chocolate assembly line?  They have to package the candy in the paper as they pass by on one of those conveyors.  They can’t keep up, and in all hilarity, end up eating the chocolates, and stuffing it in their clothing to keep from getting fired, only to have their manager think they’re doing a good job, because all the chocolate is gone, and so she speeds the conveyor belt up!

Creating PDFs for Use on an e-Reader

Yesterday I shared how we use our e-Readers for homeschooling.  I do quite a bit of searching for supplemental activities online.  One of the best websites I’ve found for that is Curriki.  It’s a non-profit site where educators share curricula that they have written themselves.  Some of the resources are already in a PDF format, but other times I create PDF files from them if they are uploaded to the site as a Word Document.  Other times I like to take a web page and convert it.
