BamBoo Bears - Fun, Safe, Organic

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world.  The fabric made from it is known for its softness and has anti-microbial properties.  Bamboo is also the favorite food of Panda Bears.  It was only natural (just like the product), given all of the above for Planet Fred to make BamBoo Bears.

These adorable plush bears, are safe for all ages.  (My 13 year old loves it, she right away claimed it and slept with it the first night it arrived!)  Coming in BamBoo Blue and Pink-a-Boo colors, they are a wonderful gift to celebrate a baby's arrival.

But not only will the recipient get a huggable buddy, but by choosing a BamBoo Bear you've helped green the planet too.  Mom and Dad or older siblings can even plant the attached tag to grow wildflowers!

In order to give back Planet Fred has a Tree4Bear program where for every six bears that are purchased through the National Arbor Day Foundation, they will plant one tree.

BamBoo Bears are made from natural materials: bamboo fleece, organic cotton, and hemp.  Their colors are created with low-impact dyes, and they are stuffed with hypoallergenic corn-based fiber.

The bears can be machine washed on gentle and tumble dried on low.  That I know is music to every parents' ears!

I would liken the cute face almost to an emoticon.  Embroidered right on the fleece, there are no parts to come off and cause a choking hazard.  The paws, inner ears and tail all have a "corduroy" type feel to them, making the bear very tactile for the child.  A great contrast to the soft fleece of the body.

This is without a doubt a plush toy that would long be carried as a "lovey".  So if you need to get a gift for the new kid on the block, consider helping nature at the same time with one of these not so average bears.

BamBoo Bears are available for $29.99 at Planet Fred.

One lucky reader will receive a BamBoo Bear of their very own thanks to Planet Fred.

The creator had her bear FRED for forty years.

I would choose the blue bear!

I'm sorry - forgot to say I'd choose a blue bear. Sandra wanted to make a bear like Fred for her children and learned she could dye natural fabrics with low-impact dyes in cold water instead of using the chemicals and procedures needed to dye polyester.

I learned that Sandra learned she "could dye natural fabrics, such as bamboo, hemp and organic cotton with low-impact dyes in cold water. And the idea of natural BamBoo Bears was born."

I learned that to safely dye polyester "it is necessary to wear a breathing mask, goggles, gloves, long sleeves, and to mix the materials outdoors or with the windows open in a well-ventilated area."

I think it's so sweet that he kept his original Fred for 40 years. I hope all of my old plushies and toys will last that long - I'm halfway there with my Care Bears. :D

I'd choose blue.

She uses cold water for dying natural fabrics with low-impact dyes. I would choose Pink-a-boo!

February 15, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

I learned that when the creator looked into the chemicals and procedures needed to properly dye polyester, she realized that there were many dangerous chemicals involved. She learned that natural fibers could be dyed with low impact dyes and cold water, and came up with the BamBoo Bears! I choose the pink bear.

Sandra was inspired to make an all-natural toy after discovering how difficult it was to work with the toxic chemicals needed to dye materials like polyester.

I would choose a blue bear.

She learned that the safest way to dye material is to use bamboo, hemp or organic cotton in cold water with low impact dyes.

I would choose the blue bear.

I LOVE these! I love how they were created to be like "Fred", his original bear that he had for over 40 years.

I don't know what color I would choose - I have a little girl and a little boy and these are so cute - I would choose pink and buy the blue one from my son. So adorable!
